The Herbfarm Restaurant began as an actual herb farm in Fall City, Washington. We started serving educational luncheons in a garage in 1986. We then moved to 9-course dinners matched with wines. Ingredients are always local and often from our own farm. Chef-Selected menus have themes which change every few weeks.

After a fire in 1997 which destroyed the restaurant/garage we re-opened in the heart of Woodinville Wine Country with 6,000 sq ft of gardens and a 5-acre farm just up the valley. We aim to create the finest dining experience in the world through welcoming decor, great service and food. Guests are toured through the Garden pre-dinner.

The Herbfarm is the only AAA 5-Diamond rated restaurant west of Chicago and north of San Francisco.

Overview:  Take lead, under Head Farmer/Gardener with:

The Farm: All aspects of 5-acre production farm–seeding, plant propagations, plant/supply shopping, watering, feeding, weeding, transplanting, animal care. Daily harvest with great detail & delivery for kitchen needs.  Irrigation systems, tractor use & care, tool/supply organization, composting, maintenance of farm infrastructure (fixing things). Supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers. Guest tours.

The Garden: Maintenance & design of food related plantings of raised beds and surrounding public display gardens at The Herbfarm Restaurant site ensuring gardens are presentable for guest viewing, weddings and tours at all times. Incorporate representative plantings of herbs & vegetables on current menus. Coordinate with Willows Lodge’s Department of Natural Beauty for hardscape lodge’s needs. Indoor plants. Combine creativity, whimsy, and function.

Be ready to be the lead when the lead is off.

About Coastal Roots Farm

Coastal Roots Farm (CRF) is a nonprofit community farm and education center. We cultivate healthy, connected communities by integrating sustainable agriculture, food justice, and ancient Jewish wisdom.

 Position Overview

The Community Farmer will support the operational teams with the cultivation, development, maintenance and follow through of projects within the following five organically maintained production areas: vegetables, food forest, vineyard, chicken runs, and composting program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Production Areas:

  • Support crop production on the farm, including pest management, greenhouse propagation, transplanting, weeding, watering, and

Position Summary

Primary Responsibilities

This position is a part- time/ seasonal position that runs from June- October 2018; work days are Sunday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings, and Monday and Thursday mornings and afternoons.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete consistent and on-time deliveries to customers
  • Keep a record of all produce delivered as well as customer feedback, comments, and concerns
  • Handle invoicing and communications related to delivery; deliver the necessary invoices at the time of delivery, and pick up any distributor boxes from previous deliveries
  • Plan for, solicit, and respond to customer and partner feedback, comments, and concerns; report any problems or concerns to Distributor staff
  • Assist in all aspects of produce packing including washing, grading, weighing and packaging
  • Model excellent health and safety standards
  • Perform other related duties per manager’s request

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • English speaking proficiency
  • Experience driving vans and small trucks in city areas
  • Knowledgeable about safe food practices and comfortable handling all food
  • Good speaking and writing communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to travel locally
  • Good sense of direction
  • Ability to lift up to 20- 30 lbs repeatedly. This is a *very* physically demanding job

  • Conversational Spanish speaking ability
  • Understanding of sustainable agriculture methods and produce distribution

Farm Manager Position

Misty Morning Farms
Misty Morning Farms are a set of three sustainable and organic farms (6, 37, and 100 acres) all within 1 mile of each other. The farms are located 35 miles northwest of Portland, Oregon in Deer Island, a soil rich and beautiful rural area adjacent to the Columbia River. We specialize in naturally grown produce, heirloom varieties of livestock and Christmas trees.
Job Description:
Manage daily operations of the farms and care of animals including sheep, goats, cows, horses, alpaca, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and pigs. The position includes overseeing organic crop production and distribution from a 1 1/2 acre area with greenhouse and raised beds, hayfield and a small Christmas tree operation.
Qualifications:
Experience in animal husbandry and farm management (or educational background with some farm work history-we are open to helping agriculture students to have an opportunity at obtaining management experience). Marketing insight, tractor experience, foresting skills, and fencing repair knowledge are helpful.
Required:
Hands on participation and supervision of work teams using motivational leadership, organization and direction.
Responsible and hardworking qualities along with a positive outlook are important.
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation essential as the farms are in a rural area.
Work Schedule:
Hours vary due to farm needs depending on the season. 40 hour week with long term commitment of at least 1 to 2 years but we are hoping to find a manager who will see the potential of our farms and stay to help them develop and grow.
Wage Range:
Salary negotiable on experience. Comfortable housing available if needed.
